Each month, we will be recognizing one male and one female US Youth Soccer Player of the Month, whose accomplishments on and off the field stick out among the rest.
The players who are selected will represent a balance of athletic achievement, sportsmanship and citizenship.
Examples of these athletes' characteristics include:
- Impactful or notable in-game performance
- Displays good sportsmanship and the promotion of teamwork
- Community service
- Superior academic achievement
- Overcoming personal obstacles
While great performances in the game of soccer are appreciated, it's important to note that accomplishments off the field are valued just as much as those achieved on the field.
This month's honorees are...
Female Player of the Month
Lillian from Rochester, N.Y.
Lillian has no fear on the soccer field. She has played up a year to challenge herself, and her development and love for the game grows every day. Lillian has started assisting her two younger sisters’ recreation teams. She will go to their practices and help the coach demonstrate drills. Lillian will also help work with the girls that are struggling to grasp certain concepts. The recreational players look up to her and are happy when she can join them. In school, Lillian has received 100 percent on every spelling test this year. Her other grades are right up there, as well. The teachers adore her and are proud of her work ethic, as she balances soccer and academics.
Male Player of the Month
Matthew from Tinton Falls, N.J.
Matthew McLaughlin is extremely dedicated to his team and his community. He makes sure to never miss a practice or game. Matthew gives 100 percent every time he steps on the field, whether for training or a match, and he is known as a team player. In addition, Matthew has earned an A+ in all of his courses this entire school year. Additionally, Matthew shines in his community. He is very dedicated to fundraising for the American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart and was his school's top fundraiser raising $1,551 this year. No matter if he’s on the field, in the classroom or in his community, Matthew makes an impact.
