Players of the Month | October 2014

Each month, US Youth Soccer will be recognizing one male and one female player whose accomplishments on and off the field stick out among the rest. The players who are selected will represent a balance of athletic achievement, sportsmanship and citizenship.
Examples of these athletes' characteristics include:
- Impactful or notable in-game performance
- Displays good sportsmanship and the promotion of teamwork
- Community service
- Superior academic achievement
- Overcoming personal obstacles
While great performances in the game of soccer are appreciated, it's important to note that accomplishments off the field are valued just as much as those achieved on the field. 
This month's honorees are...

Female Player of the Month

Hollis from Larkspur, Calif.Hollis Pom

Hollis has used soccer to make a big impact both on and off the field. She plays as a center midfielder on her club team and is a self-motivated hard worker. The 9-year-old from California has also been working on a fundraiser since the summer called “Juggling for Jude,” which raises money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Hollis juggles her soccer ball each day, posting videos and blog posts along the way, and has set a personal best of 461 consecutive touches without letting the ball hit the ground. During the months she has been working on her fundraiser, Hollis has shown dedication to her project that combines her love of soccer with an important cause that helps other children. Her work has paid off, as she recently surpassed her goal of $25,000 raised for the hospital.



Male Player of the Month

Trent from Sedalia, Mo.Trent SC Soccer Fall 14

Trent has played soccer since he was 5, and the game has become a big part of his life. He loves to play year round and has learned respect and teamwork from the game. Trent is always looking to play soccer in his free time and will meet friends at the local park to play. In addition to playing for his high school soccer team, the 14-year-old plays for Futura FC in the US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional League, and he made the US Youth Soccer ODP Missouri state team in 2014. In addition to soccer, Trent has worked with his family for the local soccer club for the last five years, been a referee and volunteers for community food kitchen.
