US Youth Soccer ODP a Common Thread at U.S. Soccer Under-14 and Under-15 National Team Camps
Next week boys from across the country will attend the U.S. Soccer Under-14 and Under-15 National Team Camps.  Although the boys are from various backgrounds and state affiliations, they all share participation in the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program, commonly referred to as US Youth Soccer ODP.

Over 180 of the 200 players (120 at Under-14 and 80 at Under-15) invited to the U.S. Soccer Under-14 and Under-15 National Team training camps compete in the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program with the majority attending US Youth Soccer ODP Regional Camps.  With the exception of a few remaining spots, the entire camp is made up of US Youth Soccer ODP players.

The Under-14 boys camp will be held at Middlesex Prep School in Concord, Mass. from August 1-7 while the Under-15 boys camp, also from August 1-7, will be held at the Home Depot National Training Center in Carson, Ca.

Peri Marosevic (Rockford, IL) scored his fifth goal in five consecutive games, and Demetrius Omphroy (Alameda, CA) notched his first, and the game winner to earn the All Stars a well deserved fourth consecutive victory against a team of ’87 and ‘88 KV Mechelen players.  In an ill-tempered game, Marosevic latched onto a cross from Raphael Martinez to slot home the first goal of the game for the All Stars in the 28th minute.

In the second half, Mechelen came out with a very determined effort, resulting in a tying goal from a series of passes from the defense, to the midfield, to their streaking striker who finished brilliantly to bring the home crowd to their feet.

The US Youth Soccer ODP Boys adidas ’89 All Stars (All Stars) took control of their match with Schalke 04 from the opening whistle.  Playing effectively out of the back, through the midfield, the All Stars got an early blast on goal by Andrew Giallombardo (Manalapan, NJ) that went just wide, but was a warning of what was to come.

The All Stars looked sharp and confident throughout the first half, making repeated forays into the Schalke penalty area, resulting in several corner kicks.  In the 26th minute, midfielder Giuseppe Carontenuto (Scottsdale, AZ) found Perica Merosevic (Rockford, IL) lurking in the penalty area, and Perica rifled a shot past a stunned keeper for the All Stars first goal.

The first chance was cut short as Perica Marosevic (Rockford, IL) created a breakaway, pushed the ball past an on rushing Dortmund keeper only to be upended in the penalty area without a call from the referee.

Today, May 24, the US Youth Soccer ODP adidas Boys 89 All Stars (All Stars) played the first match of their European Tour.  Lined up opposite Bayer Leverkusen, a team composed of boys born in 1987 and 1988, the boys from the states settled in for a tough match.

Ten minutes into play the All Stars found themselves down 2:0.  After this initial jolt the boys settled down and forced a turnover and the ball found its way to Brett King, a US National Residency player from Wilmington, NC, who beat the Bayer keeper with a powerful shot into the lower left corner.  The goal brought some needed life to the All Stars as the remaining minutes proved to be a high-energy affair with both teams testing the other’s keepers with several chances to score.  The half ended 2:1 for Bayer.
