After their run to the 2004 US Youth Soccer ODP National Championship in Vegas, the Colorado 1986 Boys team have reaped the benefits of their successes in many ways.
Tomorrow the team will be presented a day of their own, curiosity of the State of Colorado and Governor Bill Owens who will announce May 12, 2004 as US Youth Soccer ODP 1986 Boys National Champions Day in the State of Colorado.
“We are extremely pleased with this group of young men and their successes on the field of play and the example they set for those to follow,” said Frank Kohlenstein head coach for the 1986 Colorado Boys Team. “Governor Owens acknowledgement of their efforts really says something about soccer in the great state of Colorado.”
The team was highlighted as the MLS Team of the Week in the leagues season opener and recognized during halftime of the Colorado Rapids game.
Marcelo Balboa, a US Youth Soccer alumnus and former member of the US Men’s National Team and the Colorado Rapids is the assistant coach for the 1986 Colorado Boys Team said, “The US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program is the most noted and respected player development program in the nation and the key to elite soccer in the United States. Our team appreciates the effort of US Youth Soccer for player development and the State of Colorado for recognizing the 1986 Boys national championship.”
The 2005 US Youth Soccer ODP National Championships will be held March 10-13 in Plano, Texas.
