Dr. Robert "Dr. Bob" Contiguglia, 2010 Hall of Fame Inductee, Administrator
Dr. Robert "Dr. Bob" Contiguglia's love for soccer began as a player. He played as a youth, at Columbia University and in various adult clubs for more than 30 years.
In 1978, he began serving as president of his local soccer association. In 1980, he became president of the Colorado Youth Soccer, a proud member of US Youth Soccer. During his eight years as president, Contiguglia grew the organization from 3,000 to 33,000 members. He also introduced coach and referee training programs. Also in 1980, Contiguglia received his USSF "A" License.
He has coached youth and adult teams since 1970 including positions as the US Youth Soccer ODP director of coaching and the Colorado Youth Soccer coaching instructor. He also served as a US Youth Soccer ODP Girls Region IV administrator from 1988 to 1990 winning the championship.
Contiguglia established professionalism, fiscal responsibility and financial stability for US Youth Soccer serving as the president from 1990 to 1996. He also secured the first national sponsorship and introduced Soccer Start (now Soccer Across America) to expand the reach of soccer to new communities.
From 1990 to the present, Contiguglia has served on the U.S. Soccer Federation board of directors, serving as president from 1998 to 2006. Also within soccer he served as director of the United States Olympic Committee from 1998 to 2006 and the National Soccer Hall of Fame from 2006 to the present.
In 2010, he was honored with the Werner Fricker Builder Award by U.S. Soccer for his work furthering soccer.
