Bob Abbott, 2014 Hall of Fame Inductee, Administrator
For more than 30 years, Bob Abbott has been a key part of soccer in the state of Louisiana and for US Youth Soccer as a whole. Abbott’s presence has become commonplace on a variety of US Youth Soccer committees. Bob was a member of both the United States Soccer Federation Constitution Review Committee and the US Youth Soccer Constitutional Rewrite Committee in the late 1990s.
In 1997, he started as a member of the US Youth Soccer Budget Committee and became its chairman in 2001 — a position Bob still holds today in addition to his US Youth Soccer Governance Committee membership.
On the Regional level, Abbott was the Tournament Chairman for the US Youth Soccer Region III Championships in 1996, and more recently Bob was a member of the US Youth Soccer Region III ODP Supervisory Committee from 2000-05.
Bob was elected President of Louisiana Soccer Association in 2002, and during his presidency registration within the state increased significantly and Louisiana became a leader within US Youth Soccer Region III (South). During his tenure as President from 2002 to 2014, Bob oversaw the construction of the LSA state office, as well as the hiring of the association’s first Director of Coaching and first Executive Director.
In addition to serving as an administrator, Bob’s three decades of involvement in Louisiana soccer included coaching. He helped guide US Youth Soccer ODP in Louisiana as a girl’s state coach and as a state administrator for both the boys and girls programs. As the holder of a USSF ‘C’ License, Bob has also coached both boys’ and girls’ recreation and high school teams.
Bob embodies the spirit of commitment and dedication to youth soccer and his contributions, not only across Louisiana, but nation-wide, have been and continue to be instrumental in shaping the youth soccer environment in America.
