ST. LOUIS (Nov. 11, 2018) – The 2018 US Youth Soccer National League Midwest Conference Girls Fall Showcase came to a close Sunday at the Creve Coeur Soccer Complex and Lou Fusz Soccer Complex in St. Louis.

More than 130 Midwest Conference teams, including all Premier I and Premier II Division girls teams in the 15U through 19U age groups, competed in some of the final games of their fall season at the event. This weekend saw nine teams clinch first-place finishes in the Premier I and Premier II Divisions.

In addition to division titles, the weekend included several teams securing finishes near the top of the standings that resulted in promotion within the Midwest Conference or — for a select few Premier I sides — an automatic berth into the National League (national tier) for the 2019-20 season.

In the 15U Premier I Division, SLSG 2004 Elite (MO) held on for a crucial tie against Libertyville FC 1974 Elite (IL) to clinch a second-place finish.

“A tie is tie, but there is so much more on the line. The top two teams qualify for the National League, and this tie puts us in a lock for second place,” SLSG coach Shaunna Brandt said. “To qualify for National League is huge. It has been something we’ve been talking about all season long. The girls have been incredibly focused and driven toward this goal. To see that come true today is pretty special.”

Some notes from Sunday’s Matches:

  • In the 15U Premier I Division, SLSG 2004 Elite (MO) maintained its three-point lead over Libertyville FC 1974 Elite (IL) in the standings, as the two sides played to a 1-1 draw. The result allowed SLSG to clinch a second-place finish.
  • With a 5-1 win, Michigan Jaguars 02 Green (MI) secured a second-place finish in the 17U Premier I Division — giving the Jaguars a spot in the 2019-20 National League season.
  • Two of the top three teams entering Sunday in the 17U Premier II Division met to conclude the season, as Sporting Iowa A1 U17 (IA) defeated Rockford Raptors FC 02 Girls (IL), 2-1, to hold on to the top spot in the group.
  • Campton United Red (IL) picked up a big win on Sunday to move into second place in the 18U Premier II Division before the standings were finalized.
  • Two shutouts over the weekend allowed Campton United Red (IL) to jump to the top of the 19U Premier I Division standings and finish in first place. The Illinois side conceded just three goals in nine games while scoring 30.

The Midwest Conference is one in a network of 13 conferences that comprise the multi-state tier of the US Youth Soccer Leagues program. Each conference provides high-level competition with opportunities for advancement to the US Youth Soccer Regional Championships and the US Youth Soccer National League.

The National League provides an avenue for teams to play in meaningful matches against top competition from across the country for continued development. In addition to recruiting opportunities, National League teams compete for the National League title and one of four slots from each gender age group to the annual US Youth Soccer National Championships.
