2020-21 Frontier Conference action continues at weekend event in Round Rock, Texas

October 20, 2020 03:49 PM

ROUND ROCK, Texas (Oct. 20, 2020) — The 2020-21 US Youth Soccer Frontier Conference season continued over the weekend, as 76 North Texas, South Texas and Oklahoma teams across the 14U-19U Boys and 14U-18U Girls age groups competed at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas.

A number of matchups saw teams put in strong performances as they competed for a top spot in the Frontier Conference standings with the midway point of the season approaching in many age brackets. Teams in the Frontier Conference continue to compete for qualification into the 2021 USYS Southern Regional Championships, as well as qualification into the 2021-22 USYS National League Playoffs.

In the 15U Boys age group, FC Dallas 06 Central Red (TX-N) had a chance to clinch the Premier I Division title when it took on Houston Dynamo Woodlands 06 PA (TX-S) on Sunday.

FC Dallas struck first when Gabe Torres put up a long shot that was deflected by the keeper, but Torres’ teammate, Eli Krengel, followed it up and put the ball in the net in the 10th minute. Houston Dynamo came back and recorded two goals on either side of halftime to take a 2-1 lead. FC Dallas came back and scored in the 60th minute, when it started a nice build up on the defensive end with numerous one-touch passes. After the team worked the ball through the midfield, Edward Garcia was able to serve up a well-placed ball through the defense to Eduardo Uribe, who held of a defender and scored to tie the game at 2-2. FC Dallas scored again when Krengel beat his defender to get to the box, but was fouled on a run to the goal — giving Alex Cahill a penalty kick opportunity that he converted. FC Dallas went on to win, 3-2, clinching first place in the 15U Boys age group.

“The win this past Sunday against the Houston Dynamo was another testament to our FCD 06B Central Red group’s relentless desire to be one of the top teams in the nation,” FC Dallas 06B Central Red head coach Trey Tallal said. “One of the main goals this season has been proving the team can compete at a high level and also execute the coach’s meticulous style of play for the duration of the 80-minute game, regardless of circumstance or adversity.”

Tallal said his team has built up great team chemistry in the last five years that helped contribute to its success this season, and he talked about the progression his team has made in that time.

“At one point, this team was the worst team at FC Dallas,” Tallal said. “But, with the same core players since inception and no high impact players added to bolster the roster along the way, this group has become one of the top teams in the country at 15 years old by securing a Southern Regional Championship berth last year, as well as this year, including a National League Playoff berth this December.

“There really are no words that do it justice, but simply put, both the players and coaching staff put in countless hours of hard work each day in training with the goal of being the top team in the conference, regardless of adversity. And we never stopped believing the team possessed the ability to beat any opponent faced as long as each player gave 100% effort and did their best to play coach’s style. In short, the players deserve all the credit.”

The next Frontier Conference hosted event will be Nov. 14-15 at the Rolling Hills Soccer Complex in Arlington, Texas. It will include teams from the 14U-19U Boys and Girls age groups, with multiple Premier I Division titles up for grabs at the event.
