FRISCO, Texas (May 9, 2018) — US Youth Soccer is proud to announce that Baton Rouge, La., Louisiana Soccer Association and Baton Rouge Soccer Club  will host the 2019 US Youth Soccer Southern Regional Championships as part of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, the country's oldest and most prestigious national youth soccer tournament. The games will take place at the Burbank Soccer Complex.

“The Baton Rouge Soccer Club is honored to host the 2019 Southern Regionals,” said Louie Smothermon, Executive Director of Baton Rouge Soccer Club.  “We have one of the premier facilities in the region with enough fields to host over 200 teams in one location.  We are very excited and look forward to bringing close to 20 million dollars of economic impact to Baton Rouge.”

The Southern Regional Championships will attract more than 200 boys and girls teams, ages 13U through 19U, from the 12 Southern US Youth Soccer State Associations that make up US Youth Soccer South Region (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Texas, Tennessee). Regional winners earn a berth to the 2019 US Youth Soccer National Championships.

“All of us at Louisiana Soccer are thrilled to see US Youth Soccer’s Southern Regionals return to Baton Rouge in 2019,” said Tucker Reynolds, Executive Director of Louisiana Soccer Association. “This event will bring some of the finest young athletes from across the South to Louisiana to compete for the chance to represent their state in the National Championship. The tournament will also give us a chance to prove, once again, that Baton Rouge is a host city second to none.”

Baton Rouge previously hosted the Southern Regional Championships in 2010 and 2014.

“Baton Rouge has successfully hosted this event twice in the past and we are thrilled to be chosen once again as the host city for the 2019 US Youth Soccer South Region Championships,” said Paul Arrigo, president and CEO of Visit Baton Rouge.  “We are excited to invite all of the teams participating and their friends and family to experience Louisiana’s capital city.”

The US Youth Soccer National Championship Series gives US Youth Soccer teams the opportunity to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation while emphasizing teamwork, discipline and fair play.

“US Youth Soccer is thrilled to work with Louisiana Soccer, Baton Rouge Soccer and Visit Baton Rouge," said Tom Condone, US Youth Soccer South Region General Manager. "We are committed to our athletes and providing them with a venue of this magnitude for our championships will help them succeed at a very high level.”

Annually, the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series provides the nation’s top collegiate coaches with the premier stage to identify and scout the most coveted players in the country.
