Job Description
Title: Premier Director of Coaching
Reports To: NYSA President
 
Job Summary:
The Northshore Youth Soccer Association (NYSA) is located in the heart of the Northshore School District, serves over 5,000 players age 5 thru 18, and is one of the oldest and most well respected youth soccer associations in Washington Youth Soccer (WYS).  NYSA offers three levels of play including programs for recreational players, select soccer through Northshore Select Club (NSC), and premier soccer with Sound FC.
 
The Premier Director of Coaching (DOC) holds a leadership role in NYSA, including providing oversight in the following areas:
  • Responsible for creating a positive environment where coaches and players can develop and improve to maximize their full potential at all ages.
  • Development and implementation of age appropriate coaching curriculum and programs for the club.
  • Will be the lead soccer face of Sound FC in the soccer and local communities and to our players and families.
 
Under NYSA’s current structure, the Premier DOC will formally report to the NYSA President.  However, the Premier DOC will work closely with Sound FC board representatives and must maintain a collaborative working relationship with the NYSA Technical Committee, administrative staff, NSC, and key volunteers.
 
Essential Job Functions:
The Premier Director of Coaching is in charge of the development and implementation of age-appropriate coaching curriculum and programs for Sound FC, with player development being the core objective.  The Premier DOC is responsible for recruiting, developing, and retaining high-quality coaches.  The Premier DOC is also responsible for ensuring consistent and successful communication with coaches, players, and families; and creating a club culture that results in memorable and successful player/team experiences.  In this role, the Premier DOC’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
 
Primary Duties:
Premier Programming
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate coaching curriculum and programs
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality style of play through consistent communication with coaching staff and players
  • Maintain a clear philosophy and pathway to guide all programming, training and decision making
  • Design the training priorities for each age group and level. Train and monitor coaches and help them plan and implement training priorities.
  • Observe and evaluate practice sessions as appropriate and offer guidance where necessary
 
Players
  • Construct and architect a clear pathway for player development and retention
  • Supervise player placement process throughout the year, giving coaching staff a working knowledge of ideal player attributes at each age and level of competition.
  • Extend and further promote a hunger, passion and competitive drive to play at the highest levels offered within Sound FC.
  • Oversee player evaluation/feedback process that guides the coaches in how and when to provide feedback to the players.
 
Coaches
  • Design and support the recruitment and development of coaching staff to expand the implementation of a comprehensive technical and cultural experience.
  • Increase the quality of club coaches through an extensive program of education, training, and resources directed toward premier coaches; implementing a personal development plan for each member of the coaching staff
  • Implement coach evaluation process, including written assessments, interviews, and feedback.
  • Be a model and resource for coach interactions with players and families.
 
Communication & Culture
  • Develop and maintain a consistent and successful communication process with coaches, parents and players.
  • Create a club culture within the coaching staff, players and teams that results in memorable and successful player and team experiences.
  • Organize and plan workshops, seminars and other types of education programs to be presented to the club's constituents, league meetings and schools.
  • Establish and maintain relationships and trust at all levels of the game.
  • Create and maintain a quality rapport with coaches, players, families, and other key stakeholders.
  • Help in the resolution of coach/player, coach/parent conflicts.
  • Assist in the design of a Code of Conduct for the players and for the parents.
 
Other Duties Include:
  • Attend monthly board meetings and provide a comprehensive report.
  • Serve as liaison between Sound FC and other organizations at the local, state, regional, and national levels
  • Run model training sessions for coaches throughout the Association.
  • Serve on NYSA Technical Committee and work closely with Select and Rec DOCs to encourage player development and movement across all levels of play within the Association
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • USSF “B” License.
  • Track record/experience in sports management and/or club leadership.
  • 5 years youth coaching experience or at least 2 years as professional or college head coach
  • Thorough knowledge of youth soccer development and the youth soccer landscape.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, including the ability to attract, motivate and develop staff and leadership volunteers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to articulate concepts to large audiences (membership, coaching staff, etc.).
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to prioritize work.
  • Experience with budget responsibility
  • Possess integrity and follow morally and ethically sound standards including the ability to maintain confidentiality and to work with tact and diplomacy
  • Excellent with technology in various platforms both in business (Office, email, etc.) and soccer specific (session planners, etc.) with the ability to integrate this information into training and match preparation as well as individual, team and club development.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • USSF “A – Youth” License.
  • USSDA/ECNL/NCAA Division 1 or 2 coaching and event experience.
  • Director of Coaching experience
  • Experience working with multiple supervisory and/or collaborative bodies
  • Local, regional and national relationships.
  • Experience with the college selection process and related procedures.
  • College, professional and/or international playing experience.
  • Multilingual fluency is considered an advantage.
 
Additional Requirements:
  • Possess a valid driver's license and insurance
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
