OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (June 16, 2019) – The 2019 US Youth Soccer Midwest Presidents Cup presented by Chipotle wrapped up semifinal matches on Sunday along with the 19U Girls final, leaving the remaining teams one win away from earning a Midwest Presidents Cup title.

The event features more than 150 US Youth Soccer boys and girls teams competing for a regional title and a chance to advance to the 2019 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup presented by Chipotle, July 10-14 in Murfeesboro, Tenn.

Midwest Presidents Cup titles for the 13U through 18U Boys and Girls, along with 19U Boys will be crowned following final matches on Monday, June 17 while the 19U Girls Midwest Presidents Cup title was decided today. 

Final Round Recap:

19U Girls
The 19U Girls wrapped up play at the 2019 Midwest Presidents Cup in a finals rematch of group play with FC Lake County (IL) against Topeka Select Elite Academy (KS). In the group stage, Topeka defeated Lake County, 5-0, and again started on top in the final. Alyssa Stewart was played through on goal and finished her 1v1 chance to put Topeka up 1-0. Lake County responded shortly after scoring off a corner kick opportunity thanks to a finish from Olivia Wolf and leveled the score at 1-1. Lake County took a 2-1 lead into halftime after Chomko added a goal from the right wing. In the second half, Lake County almost made it 3-1 early but, after a great through ball, the Topeka goalkeeper made a fantastic diving finger tip save to push the ball off the post. Elizabeth Weinberg sealed the deal in the 85th minute and with Topeka not able to muster up an answer, Lake County earned the 19U Girls title at the final whistle. 

Semifinal Round Recaps:

13U Girls
Indy Premier Elite II (IN) earned its fourth win, in as many games, to stay perfect in the event. It also earned its fourth clean sheet in the, 3-0, victory over Group A winners Lexington Football Club (KY). Lana Adams scored her second and third goals of the event to give Sporting a 2-0 lead before teammate, Riley Henderson, scored in the 64th minute to seal the 3-0 win. It took kicks from the mark to decide the matchup between Internationals 06 Blue (OH-N) and Indy Premier 06 Elite II (IN). After two scoreless halves and a scoreless OT period, the game headed into kicks to decide the winner. Indy Premier outlasted Internationals 5-3 from the spot and clinched its spot in the finals.

13U Boys
SASA Spirits 2006 Blue 1 (IL) allowed its first two goals of the event but managed to outlast Sporting Wichita Elite (KS) 3-2 to book a spot in the final. After going up, 2-0, in the first seven minutes, thanks to goals from Luke Driver and Grant Selke, Sporting battled back in the second half. Angel Franco and Silvestre Martinez leveled the score before Jake Kelper sealed the deal for SASA in the 80th minute to earn the victory. Kicks from the mark separated an explosive game between Indiana Fire Juniors South 06 Premier Red (IN) and DASC 2006 Boys (SD). Fire took a 2-0 lead early with goals from Tewodros Stem and Camden Marx before Edison Noll cut the lead in half before halftime. Davis Hight increased the lead back to two but Noll was not to be stopped, finishing his hattrick with goals in the 58th and before the final whistle in the 70th minute. After a scoreless overtime period, DASC defeated Fire in kicks from the mark 8-7.

14U Girls
Two, 2-1, victories set the 14U Girls final. DSAC 05 (SD) defeated Salvo 05 Orange (MN) thanks to two second half goals. After going down 1-0 early from a Salvo goal from Natalie Tarara, Mia Mullenmeister notched a brace in the second half to give DASC a 2-1 win. The other game was an identical story with CUSA 05 (OH-S) going up 1-0 early on FC America (IA). CUSA scored in the 23rd minute to give it a first half lead but FC America’s Morgan Russmann scored twice in the second half to power her team to a win as the FC America defense held strong. The two goals give Russmann six goals so far in the event, topping the 14U Girls age group.

14U Boys
LG Celtics First XI 05 (IL) made the most of its wildcard spot in the semifinals by knocking off Group C winners, OFC18 Academy 05 (KS), with a 1-0 win. An early goal by John Carr in the second minute ended up being enough for LG to earn a spot in the final. LG kept OFC from finding the back of the net, notching its third straight clean sheet. The LG win sets up a rematch with DASC 05 (SD) in the final after they earned a, 2-0, victory over KCSG Pre Academy Navy 05 (MO). LG will be looking to keep the clean sheet going while DASC looks to go five games for five en route to a Midwest Presidents Cup title.

15U Girls
After going scoreless through regulation and overtime, the game between DASC 04 Loons 1 (SD) and Sporting Iowa 2004 Girls Academy 1 (IA) went to kicks from the mark to decide the game. The kick takers were on fire, with both teams going 10-for-10 and it went to the goalkeepers. Sporting’s Braelyn Thomas stepped up and fired her shot in and then stepped right back up to defend her net and made a huge save to send Sporting through to the final. Sporting Iowa will be joined in the final by KC Legends Academy (KS) who earned a tight 2-1 victory over Group A’s wildcard Indiana Fire Juniors 04 White (IN). The goal against was the first allowed against KC in its four games.

15U Boys
Carl Rose Soccer Academy 04 United (MO) is now four-for-four after its, 4-2, win over the Group A, winners Indiana Invaders FC 04 Black (IN). It was a goal explosion in the first half with CRSA starting the scoring in the eighth minute with a goal from Bradley Prost. Invaders’ Connor McKenna scored shortly after but two quick goals from CRSA goals bumped the lead to 3-1. McKenna notched another goal to bring the game within one before Prost also added a second as the first-half finished, 4-2. Indiana almost pulled one back when Bradley Taylor hit a hard half-volley from deep but the attempt skimmed the top of the crossbar. CRSA advances to the final after holding the 4-2 lead through the final whistle. The other semifinal was a tight game between two Illinois sides. Chicago Rush Select (IL) made the most of its wildcard spot by taking down in-state rival Chicago United SC 04 (IL) in kicks from the mark. The win sets up a Group C rematch where CRSA defeated Rush 2-0.

16U Girls
One goal was all it took for Three Rivers Rampage (MN) to earn a victory over Nelson Elite 03 Elite (KY). Rampage had shown defensive prowess through group play allowing just one goal through three games and earned an important clean sheet in the semifinals. Ava Johnson’s goal in the 38th minute was the game’s lone goal and sealed the 1-0 win for Rampage. Group B winner, Kansas Rush Academy 03 (KS), defeated Group C’s wildcard Internationals Blue (OH-N), 3-1, to earn its spot in the final. Kansas’ Emma Rinehart scored in the 13th minute before International’s Ellyson Heine equalized to take the score level into halftime. Kansas’ Taylor Lafferty turned on another gear in the second half notching two goals in three minutes to bring the lead to 3-1. The lead held and now Kansas Rush will face Group C winner Three Rivers Rampage in the final.  

16U Boys
Westside United FC 2003 Elite (IN) stayed a perfect four-for-four after a 1-0 win over KCSG Pre Academy Red 03 (IN) thanks to a second-half goal from Austin Wells. Westside will face Group C winners Des Moines Menace Academy (IA) who earned a tight, 1-0, victory over Group B wildcard Midstate Showcase (IL). After a scoreless regulation, Des Moines got a goal from Fernando Bueso in the first OT period that was enough to carry the team into the final.

17U Girls
Chicago Fire Juniors West 2002 Red (IL) stay perfect in the event with a, 2-1, victory over Group C winners Internationals 02 Blue (OH-N). A flurry of goals in the span of four minutes decided the game. Chicago scored first with a goal from Alexa Joshi and then a quick answer from Internationals when Clara Krohn found the back of the net. Chicago marched straight back down and retook the lead less than a minute later as Kaylin Smith added a goal of her own. Chicago now faces AFA Fillies Baez 02 (MO) who defeated FC United 02 Red (OH-S), 3-1. AFA took a 2-0 lead with goals from Mia Pointer and Lily Chung before FC United’s Macy Smith cut the lead in half. Just before the final whistle, Chung added her second to seal the victory and a spot in the final.

17U Boys
ZYSA 02 Boys Green (IN) needed a second half comeback to win, 3-2, over CRSA 2002 Black (IA). ZYSA scored first with the lone first-half goal from Alex McCarty. CRSA fought back to take the lead thanks to gals from Levi Murphy and Kisibo Kasha. ZYSA battled its way back late as Julian Keough leveled the score and then McCarty added his second in the 90th minute to seal the win. ZYSA will face Group B winners Elmbrook United Premier (WI) who survived with a 4-2 advantage in kicks from the mark against KC Fusion Preacademy 02 (KS).

18U Girls
In a game that looked like it may go to kicks from the mark, Keliix-Intra Premier (MN) ended up getting an overtime goal from Taylor Nelson to send the Minnesota team into the final. Some big saves from both keepers – Keliix’s Emma Dingers and Tempest’s Molly Wachsmann – kept the game close throughout the game. Dingers made a huge diving save to push a chance wide in the second half while Wachsmann got a big hand on a great cross that could have caused trouble in the center of her box. In the end, Nelson's goal separated the two sides as Keliix advances to the final. Keliix advances to play Group B winners Strikers Fox Valley 01 Premier (IL) who is now 4-0 following its, 2-0, victory over the Group C wildcard, Ames Girls (IA). Kyle Kahley and Kiara McPherson both scored in the second half to push Strikers to victory.

18U Boys
MidState Soccer Club (IL) earned a big, 5-0, victory over in-state foe and Group A winners OBSC 01/02 Navy (IL). A flurry of goals in the first half gave MidState a 4-0 lead heading into halftime before a late second half goal finished the scoring. Minnesota’s Keliix Intra (MN) heads to the final, like its 18U Girls counterparts, after a close 1-0 victory over Group A’s wildcard, Sporting Columbia 01/02 Navy (MO). Keliix’s Keegan James scored the game’s lone goal in the 23rd minute and the rest of the team did its part to keep the clean sheet as Keliix heads to the final to face MidState.

19U Boys
The Group A winner, Missouri Rush 200 United Ferguson (MO)m took care of business and defeated the Group B runner-up, SASA Spirits (IL), 2-0. Through four games, Rush has only allowed one goal while putting up 11 of its own. Rush will face the only team that has managed to score on it – TC Storm 00/01 (ND) - in the final. TC Storm defeated Group B winners, OFC18 Academy 00 (KS) in a tight 1-0 game. TFC’s Casey Haldis notched the game’s lone goal in the 38th minute and it was enough to give his team the win as neither team could muster another goal for the duration of the game. The victory sets up a Group A rematch where TC Storm and Rush tied 1-1 in the final group play game.
