ST. LOUIS (Nov. 9, 2018) – The 2018 US Youth Soccer National League Midwest Conference Girls Fall Showcase kicked off Friday at the Creve Coeur Soccer Complex and Lou Fusz Soccer Complex in St. Louis.

More than 130 Midwest Conference teams, including all Premier I and Premier II Division girls teams in the 15U through 19U age groups, are competing in some of the final games of their fall season at the event. During showcase play, multiple Premier I teams have opportunities to clinch berths to the 2019 US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional Championships and spots in the US Youth Soccer National League (national tier) for the 2019-20 season.

The showcase weekend continues on Saturday and will conclude with matches on Sunday. 

Entering Friday’s action, the 17U Girls Premier I Division featured four teams within two points of second place. Two of those sides met on the field, as Tamara Hernandez netted the lone goal in a 1-0 win for Team Chicago Academy 2002 Elite (IL) against Nationals Union 02 Black (MI).

Team Chicago coach Dave Lovercheck was aware of the talent on both sides in the game, and he said competing for top finishes in the Midwest Conference standings adds to the matches.

“Both of these teams are in the National League this year already. It’s great to play such a high level of competition in a conference game,” Lovercheck said. “Having [National League spots for next year] on the line adds a little spice to the games. It’s great that there’s a clear pathway and the criteria are clear for who can qualify from year to year.”

Some notes from Friday’s Matches:

• SLSG 2004 Elite (MO) earned a key 3-2 win against Sporting St. Louis Red Devils 2004 (MO) to move into a first-place tie in the 15U Premier I Division. SLSG and co-leader SC Waukesha 04 Girls Blue (WI) will play Saturday in a match with enormous title implications.
• With a tie on Friday, Legends MAFC 04 Black (MI) maintained a narrow lead on top of the 15U Premier II Division, but it may need a result on Saturday to hold off Galaxy SC 04 Blue (IL).
• In the 16U Premier I Division, Lou Fusz 03 Blue (MO) dropped a 2-1 decision to SLSG 2003 Elite (MO). Despite the loss, Lou Fusz still holds a six-point lead in the division.
• Team Chicago Academy-2002 Elite (IL) won, 1-0, on Friday to move into second place in the 17U Premier I Division and inch closer to securing a spot in the National League national tier for the 2019-20 season.
• In the 18U Premier I Division, North Shore United 01 Blue (WI) earned a 4-1 win over KC Athletics Academy Elite 01G (MO) to move into first place in the standings and secure the division title.

The Midwest Conference is one in a network of 13 conferences that comprise the multi-state tier of the US Youth Soccer Leagues program. Each conference provides high-level competition with opportunities for advancement to the US Youth Soccer Regional Championships and the US Youth Soccer National League.

The US Youth Soccer National League provides an avenue for teams to play in meaningful matches against top competition from across the country for continued development. In addition to recruiting opportunities, National League teams compete for the National League title and one of four slots from each gender age group to the annual US Youth Soccer National Championships.
