ST. LOUIS (Nov. 8, 2019) – The 2019 US Youth Soccer Midwest Conference Girls Fall Showcase kicked off Friday at the Creve Coeur Soccer Complex in St. Louis.

More than 120 Midwest Conference teams, including all Premier I and Premier II Division teams in the 15U-19U Girls age groups, are competing in some of the final games of their fall season at the event. During showcase play, multiple Premier I Division teams have opportunities to clinch berths to the 2020 US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional Championships and spots in the US Youth Soccer National League for the 2020-21 season.

Meanwhile, Premier II Division teams in the 15U-18U age groups have a chance to earn promotion to the Premier I Division for the 2020-21 season by finishing in the Top Three in their division this season.

The showcase weekend continues on Saturday and will conclude with matches on Sunday. 

Friday’s action featured an exciting matchup between the top two teams in the 19U Premier I Division. Nationals Union 01 Black (MI) built an early lead against first-place LFA United Blue 01 (MO) before holding off a LFA comeback attempt to win, 4-3 — allowing Nationals Union to overtake the Missouri side for first place in the group.

Nationals Union coach Radek Papiez said it was an exciting game and gave credit to LFA for battling back and nearly tying the score when it hit the crossbar from a free kick in the final seconds of the match. Papiez said this match was one of many quality games that will take place at the showcase as teams battle for position in the Midwest Conference standings.

“Every game counts. For the teams who are here, it is a very exciting time, especially for the teams who have put themselves in a position [for a top finish],” Papiez said. “The environment is unreal. We all love the game, so it’s great to see so many kids out on the fields and competing.”

Some notes from Friday’s matches:

• In the 15U Premier I Division, Sporting STL 05 Academy (MO) tightened its grasp on second place with a 3-0 win on Friday.
• Sporting Iowa Academy 1 (IA) earned a close 2-1 win against Bavarian SC (WI) to maintain its perfect record and lead in the 15U Premier II Division.
• SC Wave 04 Girls Blue Juniors (WI) remained in first place in the 16U Premier I Division with a 4-2 win against Michigan Jaguars 04 Green (MI). Meanwhile, second-place Sporting St. Louis Red Devils 2004 (MO) created some separation from the rest of the group with a win against third-place side Libertyville FC 1974 Elite (IL).
• With a close 2-1 win against North Shore United 04 G Blue (WI) on Friday, Sporting STL 2004 Rangers (MO) maintained its narrow advantage at the top of the 16U Premier II Division.
• In the 17U Premier I Division, Lou Fusz 03 Blue - McKee/McVey (MO) dropped its first points of the season in a 1-1 draw against Libertyville FC 1974 Elite (IL). Despite the tie, Lou Fusz maintained its place atop the division.
• A Michigan Jaguars 2003 Green (MI) 2-2 draw against SLSG 2003 Elite (MO) opened the door for other sides to overtake the Jaguars for first place in the 17U Premier II Division. SLSG 2003 Bayern Munich (MO) and North Shore United 03 G Blue (WI) each took advantage of the opportunity, as they both won to move into a tie for first place — one point ahead of the Jaguars.
• Team Chicago Academy - 2002 Elite (IL) secured a 5-2 win against Michigan Jaguars 02 Girls Green (MI) on Friday to extend its lead over idle North Shore United 2002 Blue (WI) at the top of the 18U Premier I Division.
• Lou Fusz Athletic ORourke (MO) remained unbeaten and in first place in the 18U Premier II Division with a decisive win on Friday.
• In a matchup of the top two teams in the 19U Premier I Division, Nationals Union 01 Black (MI) held off a late push from LFA United Blue 01 (MO) to win, 4-3. The four Nationals Union tallies were the first goals conceded by LFA this season. The win allowed the Michigan side to past LFA and move into first place.
• In the 19U Premier II Division, Iowa Rush 2001 Girls (IA) won, 2-1, to hand first-place side Midwest United FC 01 Royal (MI) its first loss of the season. That result allowed KCSG Academy 01 Copa (KS) (KS) and AFA Fillies Black (MO) to each match Midwest United atop the standings with 15 points.

The Midwest Conference is one in a network of 13 conferences that comprise the multi-state tier of the US Youth Soccer Leagues Program. Each conference provides high-level competition with opportunities for advancement to the US Youth Soccer Regional Championships and the US Youth Soccer National League.

The US Youth Soccer National League provides an avenue for teams to play in meaningful matches against top competition from across the country for continued development. In addition to recruiting opportunities, National League teams compete for the National League title and one of four slots from each gender age group to the annual US Youth Soccer National Championships.
