FRISCO, Texas (Jan. 11, 2011) - US Youth Soccer is proud to announce applications are now available for the third annual William J. "Billy" Goaziou Scholarships for post-secondary education.

Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded based on community service and giving back to the game of soccer to honor the memory of William J. "Billy" Goaziou for his outstanding services for soccer and US Youth Soccer.

The scholarships are awarded annually through the US Youth Soccer Foundation to one male and one female recipient. Students eligible for this year's scholarships are those planning to attend a post-secondary education institute for the first time in the fall of 2011.

"US Youth Soccer has many volunteers, coaches and administrators who give back to the game of soccer through service, and we are excited to honor a man who spent more than 25 years of his life doing just that," said John Sutter, president of US Youth Soccer. "Billy Goaziou was a highly respected man within the soccer community, and he would be humbled to know his legacy will continue to give back to the game of soccer."

Goaziou was involved in soccer for more than 25 years as a coach and administrator.  He served as treasurer of US Youth Soccer and the Florida Youth Soccer Association, as well as chairman of the US Youth Soccer Budget and US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Committees. In 1994, he took office as the U.S. Soccer Federation's Treasurer and was re-elected four times (1996, 1998, 2000 and 2004). Beyond the soccer world, Goaziou served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
