SALT LAKE CITY (June 16, 2017) — Quarterfinal matches are in the books at the 2017 US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup in Salt Lake City, Utah, as Friday’s winners earned a spot in the semifinals. The tournament began with more than 120 teams in the 13U through 17/18U Boys and Girls age groups, and just 40 remain in the hunt for a regional title.
Winners of the Region IV Presidents Cup will advance to the 2017 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup, July 12-16 in Auburndale, Fla.
One of the teams moving on is Cook Inlet SC 00 (AK), who held on for a 3-2 win after going down a player in the second half. Cook Inlet coach Pete Showler said these games provide learning experiences for the player in how to handle tough situations in high-intensity games.
“Any time you’re playing some of the strong states in Region IV, it’s a great experience for these girls because they don’t get it week in and week out,” Showler said. “To test yourself and do well against these players is a testament of the hard work we’ve put in. It’s a great place to come and great tournament to play in.”
The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup offers teams the challenge of experiencing different types of play by competing from state to regional to national levels. The Presidents Cup provides teams with a progressive, competitive experience that highlights competition, camaraderie and community.
