Final 24 teams earn berths to National Championships at USYS Regionals

FRISCO, Texas (July 4, 2025) – The US Youth Soccer (USYS) Eastern Regional Championships and Southern Regional Championships each concluded earlier this week after multiple days of thrilling action in Loudoun County, Va., and Dallas, Texas, respectively.

Each event saw boys and girls teams in the 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U, 17U, and 18/19U age groups earn Regional Championship titles and clinch the final 24 spots at the 2025 US Youth Soccer National Championships, presented by New York Life. The National Championships will be played July 22-27 in Orlando, Fla.

Both of the Regional Championship events featured State Cup champions and representatives, as well as qualifiers from The National League’s regular season divisions. In total, a combined 390 high-level teams entered the Eastern and Southern Regionals with championship aspirations.

At both events, coaches talked about the importance of teamwork and how it’s critical to accomplishing goals.

“This is my fifth season with this group and this is now our third season at regionals,” said PA Classics Harrisburg 2007 F Black (PA-E) coach Adam Freeman, who has now led his team to two Eastern Regional titles (2023, 2025) after winning this year’s 18/19U Girls division. “Some of the captains of the group and the players who have been here for a long period of time took the players under their wing that haven’t been here before and showed them how to win games in a way that you can consistently do throughout five games in six days.”

New York City FC Girls 2012 North (NY-E) coach Stuart Smith, who led his team to the 13U Girls title, echoed many of the same sentiments.

“I think what made our group special was the togetherness that we had as a team. We do have good individuals but us collectively as a group was what allowed us to win so many games this week and ultimately win the final. Everyone worked hard for each other as a team, everyone understood that the team was stronger than any one individual, and collectively they came together and produced great team performances.”

At the Eastern Regionals, Eastern Pennsylvania and Maryland led all state associations with four champions, while Eastern New York followed with three. Maine, Massachusetts, and New Jersey each had one champion.

South Texas and Tennessee led state associations at the Southern Regionals with their four champions, while Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, and North Carolina had one.

“I thought it was a great opportunity for our teams in the Midwest to come here and play,” said Elmbrook United 2012G Elite 64 (WI) goalkeeper Lauren Voelker, who made a key penalty save in her team’s shutout win in the 13U Girls final. “Thankfully, we moved on and now we’re heading to Orlando, so I’m really happy. This is really like a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

At the Midwest Regionals, Illinois led all state associations with three champions, while Kansas followed with two. Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin each had one champion.

Each National League team that qualified for Nationals did so by proving itself against some of the top competition in the country. A field of more than 780 teams started at the National League Quarterfinals level and eventually pared down to the 120 sides that punched their tickets to Nationals through top performances at one of the two National League Semifinal events.

Eighteen USYS Alumnae Fuel Soccer Gold Medal Win at Paris Olympics

PARIS (Aug. 10, 2024) – The United States Women’s National Team added to its record number of soccer gold medals Saturday afternoon in Paris, earning its fifth in Olympic Games history with a 1-0 win over Brazil at the famed Parc des Princes. The victory marked the third time (2004 and 2008) the Stars and Stripes have beaten the Seleção in a gold medal match.

Two US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) alumnae – Korbin Albert and Mallory Swanson – combined to break the deadlock in the 57th minute, with Swanson’s fourth goal of the Olympics being her most important. Albert split the Brazilian defense with a pass that found Swanson and put her through on goal, with a clinical finish slotted in the far corner being the contest’s lone score.

The United States’ roster of 18 featured USYS heavily, with 17 of the players – including Albert and Swanson – as well as head coach Emma Hayes, having ties to the largest youth sport organization in the country.

US Youth Soccer Alumnae

  • Casey Murphy – Olympic Development Program and National Championship Series
  • Alyssa Naeher – Olympic Development Program
  • Emily Fox – National League and Olympic Development Program
  • Naomi Girma – Olympic Development Program
  • Casey Krueger – Olympic Development Program
  • Jenna Nighswonger – Olympic Development Program
  • Emily Sonnett – National League and Olympic Development Program
  • Korbin Albert – Olympic Development Program
  • Sam Coffey – Olympic Development Program
  • Lindsey Horan – Olympic Development Program
  • Rose Lavelle – National League and Olympic Development Program
  • Crystal Dunn – Olympic Development Program
  • Trinity Rodman – National Championship Series (Rodman also went up against USYS ODP during the 2016 Interregionals as a member of the U14 US Youth National Team)
  • Sophia Smith – Olympic Development Program
  • Mallory Swanson – Olympic Development Program
  • Jaedyn Shaw – National Championship Series
  • Lynn Williams – National Championship Series
  • Emily Sonnett (NASA, Georgia)
  • Casey Krueger (Eclipse Select, Illinois)
  • Trinity Rodman (So Cal Blues, Cal South)
  • Emily Fox (Herndon Youth Soccer, Virginia)
  • Rose Lavelle (CUP Crew Jrs, Ohio)
  • Casey Murphy (PDA Slammers, New Jersey)

Throughout its triumphant six-game run in Paris, the United States’ balanced roster – led by former regional USYS ODP coach Hayes – stood out on the world stage. Its defense, anchored by Olympic Development Program alumnae Naeher, Dunn, Girma, and Fox, earned four clean sheets, including one during every stage of the knockout rounds. With an impenetrable backline behind them, the United States’ front three of Rodman, Smith, and Swanson put the finishing touches on each opponent, with the US Youth Soccer alumnae combining for 10 goals during the event.

For Dunn, Naeher and Horan, the Paris Olympics marked their third time representing the Stars and Stripes at the Olympic Games after previously competing in Rio and Tokyo. Horan is the current team captain.

Orlando, Fla. (July 29, 2024) – Fourteen teams etched their name in youth sport history Sunday afternoon at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla., putting the final touches on the 2024 US Youth Soccer National Championships, presented by New York Life.

The week-long event brought an estimated 8,700 people to the Greater Orlando area as 174 teams competed to take home USYS’ storied hardware, including the 19U Boys James P. McGuire Cup – the oldest trophy in youth sport – during its golden anniversary. Throughout the event, 118 matches were streamed, in addition to six finals (13U Boys and Girls, 18U Boys and Girls and 19U Boys and Girls) being broadcast on either ESPNU or ESPNews.

The teams left standing at the final whistles hailed from nine different US Youth Soccer State Associations: Florida (2), Illinois (2), Michigan (2), New Jersey (2), South Texas (2), Kansas (1), Nevada (1), North Carolina (1), and Utah (1).

This year’s National Championships featured a long list of storylines to track from the opening kick.

The Utah Celtic FC 08 Boys were one of seven defending champions back with a chance to claim their spot on top – and the only ones able to do so. Celtic made it through their group stage unscathed with wins against Torpedoes BU16 (NJ) and Coppermine SC Boys 08B Elite 64 (MD), as well as a draw in its final game against Kansas Rush Academy Boys 2008 (KS), sealing its spot in the 16U Boys semifinals.

It then took two shutout victories against Stony Brook – LGN Wildings Blue B2008 (NY-E) and Galaxy SC 08B Elite 64 (IL) for the defending champions to go back to back.

After coming up just short last year, the Ponys FC 2010 Boys (IL) were back in the National Championship with hopes of a different outcome. In a wild game that featured multiple late, dramatic shifts, the Ponys came out on top in penalties against the The Football Academy 2010 Boys Black (NJ) in the 14U Boys final to complete the job.

On the girls’ side, Las Vegas Surf SC 09G Elite 64 (NV) had a dominant five-game run to claim the National Championship. The Nevada side used both a potent offense and stifling defense to outscore its opponents 27-2 to take home the 15-and-Under Girls Cup. Gloria Vancura, a member of the Surf team, talked about what this week has meant for her.

“It feels amazing because we’ve been training so hard all through the summer and our hard work has paid off,” Vancura said. “It’s been great – it’s been like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. It’s eye-opening to see all these talented players and be able to learn from them on and off the field. For us to be here, it’s a huge accomplishment and it means the world to us as a team and as a club.”

Also capping off a dominant run – but this one measured in years, not games – was Team Boca 08G Elite 64 (FL). The Floridian side was able to earn its second National Championship, as well as having a semi-finalist finish, in the last four years after besting Fort Wayne United 08G Elite 64 (IN) 4-2 in a close match during Sunday morning’s 16U Girls final.

The 2024 National Championships, presented by New York Life, signaled the end of a celebratory summer for US Youth Soccer and its signature events that create lifelong memories for all.

An Open Letter from US Youth Soccer CEO Skip Gilbert

Greetings from Frisco, Texas – the home of US Youth Soccer.

This year marks US Youth Soccer’s 50th anniversary. As proud as we are of our legacy, the start of 2024 also marked the beginnings of meaningful change. Earlier this spring, we began an earnest, in-depth evaluation of our National Championships, presented by New York Life.

We achieved a significant degree of consensus – near unanimity – among our 54-member State Associations with our plans to reimagine our signature championship.

We are thrilled to implement these exciting changes that will, undoubtedly, deliver on goals that centered around the vision to create the best youth sport event in the country. Universal agreement established that the ideal competitive format impacted these core areas:

1.  Player Experience/True Competitive Balance

2.  Lower Costs/Financial & Travel Sensitivity

3.  Central Location/Dynamic Facilities

Looking ahead, our goal is for USYS to host a competitively balanced championship event for the 2025-26 season, featuring teams from each of the 54 State Associations that will qualify directly from their State Cup competitions into three divisions. Our National League will also have a direct pathway into this incredible program which will come together at a single site to play for national titles.

Our revamped National Championships will create even more opportunities for lifelong memories for players and their families, coaches, and referees. More than 10,000 teams historically enter our National Championship Series, and we expect even more to be drawn to the format in the years to come.

On behalf of USYS Board Chair Todd Lockhart, our Board of Directors, Chief Soccer Officer Tom Condone, and the entire USYS staff, we thank the working group who helped facilitate these key changes (and will continue to lead the redesign).

  • Louis Mateus, US Youth Soccer Board of Directors, Member at Large
  • Jonathan Berzins, Arizona Youth Soccer Association, Chief Executive Officer
  • Chris Branscome, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association, Chief Executive Officer
  • Jennifer Davis, South Texas Youth Soccer, Executive Director
  • Dave Guthrie, Indiana Soccer, Executive Director
  • Gordon Henderson, Ohio Soccer Association, Chief Executive Officer
  • Hans Hobson, Tennessee State Soccer Association, Chief Executive Officer
  • Melissa Zielinski, Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association, Executive Director

With our Golden Anniversary Championships later this month in Orlando, we cannot wait to crown another set of champions. In addition, we are bullish to begin our second 50 years with a reimagined National Championship to be played against the backdrop of the 2026 World Cup in the U.S.

Stay tuned for updates as we use this momentum to finalize planning to debut the nation’s best youth sports event, capping the 2025-26 soccer season!

Thanks for your continued support of our great game,

Skip

Regionals Wrap Up Across the Country, Provide Preview for Storied National Championships

Event Photos | Highlights & Videos

FRISCO, Texas (July 4, 2024) – Two weeks of competitive games featuring more than 800 teams have come to a close, wrapping up US Youth Soccer’s Regional Championships, presented by New York Life.

Since the second week of June, many of the best teams in the country throughout the 12U-19U Age Groups have competed in USYS’ longstanding event with trips to Orlando, Fla., and spots at the storied National Championships on the line.

With games being played in Charleston & Barboursville, W.Va., Tampa & Auburndale, Fla., Overland Park & Olathe, Kan., and Honolulu, premier US Youth Soccer matches were highlighted in three separate time zones for those following from afar – in addition to the thousands in attendance.

Hawaii and New Jersey led all State Association’s with five Regional Champions this summer, and one of the Aloha State’s teams – Leahi Soccer Club 05/06G Premier – is ready for the challenge that Nationals will bring.

“Just to be in this position… that we got to compete at this level, I think is pretty amazing,” said Leahi’s Laule’a Ah Mook Sang. “We’re from a small island of Hawaii and no one really thinks much of us, so being able to represent the Far West Region in this big tournament is pretty awesome and it’s such an honor to all of us that we get this opportunity.”

Ah Mook Sang’s teammate, Zoe Maikai, echoed those same sentiments. “This is our second time winning and the last time we won we didn’t go to Nationals, but for us to have another opportunity to go and represent not only our Far West Region, but also Hawaii as a small island.. a small community, it’s just so amazing,” she said. “To be a part of this team and just go out there and play and do the things that I love… I’m so honored to go to this bigger platform and show off what I can do with my team.”

Florida (4), Illinois (4), Kansas (3), South Texas (3), Cal South (2), Eastern New York (2), Eastern Pennsylvania (2), Maryland (2), Mississippi (2), Nevada (2), Ohio (2), Tennessee (2), Utah (2), and Wisconsin (2) also had multiple teams claim slots in Orlando. State Association’s with one Regional Champion include Arkansas, Cal North, Connecticut, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania West, Virginia, and West Virginia. The teams hail from 30 of 54 USYS State Associations.

There will be much to recognize in 2024, whether it be the newly-crowned champions of Presidents Cup and our National Championships or USYS’ anniversary. As the calendar gets ready to flip, US Youth Soccer is excited to embark on a year-round celebration commemorating its 50 years of growing the game by revealing new, branded marks for the landmark.

The 50th anniversary marks include primarily blue and primarily red versions of the shield logo, as well as one where the “50” is gold in a nod to the golden anniversary.

US Youth Soccer was founded in 1974 and features 2.5 million players participating annually. Its mission is “To provide world-class support, resources, and leadership, helping every member fulfill their goals on and off the field of play.”

USYS also unveiled a campaign slogan “It Starts with US | Youth Soccer,” where the “US” serves as a double entendre, representing both the word “us” and the United States portion of the organizational name.

Video reveal of new campaign slogan and 50th-anniversary mark can be found here.

“We are proud to celebrate our 50th anniversary and thank the millions of players who have donned the USYS shield over the last five decades,” said US Youth Soccer CEO Skip Gilbert.

“We recognize those who founded our wonderful organization and the executives at our national office and the State Associations who made — and continue to make — US Youth Soccer what it is today. Most, we want to acknowledge past and present players, coaches, volunteers, parents and family members who are the lifeblood of our organization.”
