Champions Celebrated At Far West Regional Championships

Scores & Standings

BOISE, Idaho (June 30, 2023) – More than 200 teams competed June 23-29 at the Far West Regional Championships in Boise, Idaho. Games were played at the Simplot Sports Complex with a trip to this summer’s National Championships on the line.

Utah — one of 14 State Associations that make up USYS’ West Region — saw six teams crowned champions this week. Idaho (2), Oregon (2), Alaska (1), Cal-North (1), Hawaii (1), and Nevada (1) all had regional championship-winning teams, too.

Michael Montgomery, head coach of Alaska Rush 2006 Girls (AK), talked about the importance of making each moment count when the team is together because of the time they can practice outdoors being limited.

“It is huge on the girls because we train indoors seven months out of the year and three months outdoors,” he added. “The other three months, they are with their high school teams.”

Montgomery shared three things that he tells his team when discussing preparation for Nationals with them.

“Number one, outwork the other team. Number two, pass with possession and number three, enjoy the game.”

Jose Dydasco, a second head coach, echoed many of the same sentiments that Montgomery did. Dydasco coaches FC Hawaii 09G Red (HI), making the Regional Championships and a trip to Boise a big change of scenery for his team.

“Playing in Hawaii, you kind of play the same teams over and over and over,” Dydasco said. “So a new game like this, a new team, a new style, always presents a challenge for our girls.”

“We have veterans on the team that were able to experience winning this last year, but we’re even more excited for the new guys that were not able to experience it but did get to partake in winning the championship this year.”

Dylan Lopez and James Schneider, two standout players for Wildlings, shared what they had to do to reach these heights again this year.

“For the past week, we’ve been training under the heat, for three hours a day,” Lopez said. “Just preparing, running, sprinting, doing drills to prepare us for this week.”

Schneider cited his team’s bond as a big reason for their success.

“Our team chemistry was tight and our defense throughout the entire tournament was lock-down.” Wildlings only gave up one goal throughout its six-game run to the championship.

USYS National League Introduces Enhanced Format for National Events

FRISCO, Texas (April 7, 2023) — The US Youth Soccer National League is excited to introduce an evolved competition format and pathway for its national events, beginning in the 2023-24 seasonal year.

The new national event pathway will allow the very best teams from the National League’s club-based and team-based leagues to come together in a common, unified pathway. Every team attending national events will compete in meaningful games, with the ability to ultimately advance to the USYS National Championships.

“We cannot wait for the players and teams to experience the excitement and competitive atmosphere that will come with the enhanced competition format and pathway provided at our national events,” said Simon Collins, National League Commissioner. “We have listened to feedback from teams and clubs, and we’re confident this will lead to more meaningful games and a great atmosphere that will be even more appealing to all in attendance, including college coaches and scouts.”

Regular season league play — in the National League Conferences and Elite 64 — will provide teams with advancement into the national event pathway, beginning with either the Conference Playoffs or the Elite 64 Playoffs.

Based on performances at either the Conference Playoffs or the Elite 64 Playoffs, teams in the 14U-18/19U age groups will advance to National League P.R.O., where Conference teams and Elite 64 teams will compete against each other for the opportunity to qualify for the USYS National Championships.

Under this new format for national events, National League teams will enjoy several benefits of the evolved competition that enhance their overall experience:

  • Every regular season league game, whether in the Conferences or Elite 64, continues to be meaningful, as regular season performances determine qualification and placement into the national events.
  • Any time a team travels to a national event, it is guaranteed to play meaningful games with the chance to ultimately advance to the USYS National Championships.
  • Based on performance at its respective Playoff event, each advancing team is placed into an appropriate pool at its National League P.R.O. event — increasing the likelihood of all games being competitive and evenly-matched.
  • The 18U and 19U age groups will be combined across all National League competitions — creating more flexibility and a higher, more consistent competitive level in a combined 18/19U age group.
  • Each national event will feature either group or pool winners and encourage players to compete with a focus on team success.
  • A competitive environment with meaningful matches provides an ideal setting for college coaches and scouts to evaluate players.

More information on gameplay formats at the national events will be available later this spring.

All national events will be scheduled to reduce high school soccer conflicts, when possible. The Conference Playoffs will take place in early December, and teams advancing out of the Conference Playoffs will be assigned to one of two National League P.R.O. events — taking place in either late February or early May.

Half of the Elite 64 teams will attend an Elite 64 Playoff event in early November, with advancing teams moving on to the National League P.R.O. event in early May. The other half of Elite 64 teams will attend the Elite 64 Playoff event in mid-to-late January, with advancing teams moving on to the National League P.R.O. event in late February. All dates are subject to change.

Elite 64 teams in the 13U age group will not advance beyond the Elite 64 Playoffs.

In addition to the national events, all teams in the Conferences and Elite 64 will continue to have access to National League Regional Showcases. More Regional Showcase options are expected to be added in the coming season, allowing teams with additional opportunities to play showcase games closer to their home markets and prospective local college programs.

ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort to Host 2023 National Championships

FRISCO, Texas (Sept. 1, 2022) – US Youth Soccer (USYS) is excited to announce ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort as the host location for the 2023 National Championships, to be held July 17-23, 2023.

The 2023 National Championships will mark the 49th-annual edition of US Youth Soccer’s storied event and will add to its rich history, as boys and girls champions will be crowned in each of USYS’ seven age divisions (13U-19U).

Walt Disney World Resort has served as a location for multiple USYS National League events, as well as the 2022 National Championships at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Teams competing in 2023 will once again have the opportunity to showcase their talents at one of the country’s premier facilities, featuring 17 multi-purpose fields and 700,000 square feet of playing space.

“We are very excited to bring our US Youth Soccer National Championships back to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex after a fantastic tournament this summer,” said USYS CEO Skip Gilbert. “We strive to make every event as memorable as it can be and having a host facility as exemplary as Walt Disney World Resort demonstrates our commitment as such. It truly makes it a magical experience for everyone involved.”

“Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA) is thrilled to host the upcoming 2023 USYS National Championships for the third consecutive year,” said FYSA Executive Director Joel Dragan. “The top-tier soccer facilities with a premier location near numerous accommodations, Florida attractions, and a touch of Disney Magic make ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex a special place to host this prestigious event. We are certain that FYSA, USYS, and Disney will continue to make this prominent event a memorable experience for participants and their families!”

Information on the four regional locations for the National Championships Series was announced earlier this month and can be found here.

Regional Host Locations for the 2023 National Championship Series Announced

FRISCO, Texas (August 18, 2022) – Earlier this week, US Youth Soccer announced its regional host locations for the 2023 Presidents Cup and is now excited to announce its regional host locations for the 2023 National Championship Series, with Boise, Idaho, the sole location to host the event for a second consecutive year.

The National Championship Series and its long history, which will be celebrating its 49th anniversary, are a significant source of revenue for local economies. Each regional location will host more than 100 teams, with each player expected to be accompanied by two additional people.

  • Eastern Regional Championships: Loudoun County, Virginia (June 23-29, 2023)
  • Midwest Regional Championships: St. Louis, Missouri (June 23-28, 2023)
  • Southern Regional Championships: Baton Rouge, Louisiana (June 23-29, 2023)
  • Far West Regional Championships: Boise, Idaho (June 23-29, 2023)

“We are eager to bring USYS National Championship Series Regionals to these locations next summer,” said USYS CEO Skip Gilbert. “We want to ensure that every element of our nation’s oldest and most prestigious national youth tournament is memorable to participants and their families. Baton Rouge, Boise, St. Louis, and Loudoun County will prove to be fantastic hosts, delivering perfect venues and will add to the rich history of this compelling competition.”

Boys and girls teams in the 13U-19U age groups will earn entry into the Regional Championships after successfully competing at the state association level, where they will then vie for a spot at the 2023 US Youth Soccer National Championships. The Eastern and Far West Regional Championships will also have boys and girls teams in the 12U age group compete for a regional championship.

ProScore analysis, highlights available to 14U-18U National Championship teams

FRISCO, Texas (Aug. 15, 2022) — Thanks to US Youth Soccer’s partnership with ProScore Soccer, teams and players who competed in the 2022 US Youth Soccer National Championships now have access to the most advanced, interactive game data and video analysis in youth soccer.

The ProScore platform provides teams with an abundance of information and features, including condensed game video, customized highlight packages, game analysis, the tracking of positive game actions, and more. The ProScore analysis demonstrated for the National Championships is a taste of the exciting experiences to come for players in Elite 64 and National League P.R.O. during the 2022-23 season.

Teams that competed at the National Championships can visit the ProScore website to view analysis from their games at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla., and have free access to:

  • Individual game reports, including match analysis with overall team ratings, as well as team ratings for eight key soccer attributes
  • Video highlights, including condensed (action-only) full game video, as well as attacking-specific highlights and defensive-specific highlights for each team
  • Match Progress Charts to show quality of chances and expected goals for each team over the course of the game
  • Live game action overlays on the highlight videos to directly identify positive actions performed by the players in the video

Players can sign up for free in a matter of minutes and gain access to individual highlights from every game they played at Nationals. These personalized highlights also feature an overlay, which promotes positive actions, while Player Profiles and the highlights within them will be directly available to college coaches and scouts.

“We’re proud to have played a part in the outstanding 2022 USYS National Championships,” said ProScore Soccer Consultant Jeff Larentowicz, a 16-year MLS veteran and two-time USYS National Champion. “We look forward to recognizing every recruitable moment over the course of the 2022-23 season.”

The team-centric analysis performed by ProScore will be provided for free to all teams in Elite 64 and National League P.R.O. for the 2022-23 season — giving each side detailed analysis of high-level games and a never-before-seen ability to watch league opponents on a regional and national scale.

“Over the last few years, we have seen multiple game analysis companies offer their services to teams and clubs, but I have yet to find one that rivals ProScore,” said Simon Collins, National League Commissioner. “While looking to find companies that can truly elevate a player’s performance and aid their recruitment, it is vital we understand what a player needs. ProScore understands the players’ needs. They work with many English Premier League clubs by providing on and off-ball game analysis and they are also massively involved with some EPL clubs’ recruitment process.

“If it good enough for the EPL clubs to evaluate and recruit talent, it will be equally as good for the U.S. colleges and professional clubs to recruit players participating in USYS National League programs.”
